About Digital Photography

With the advent of low cost, high quality digital cameras it has become far easier for the non-technical photographer to produce excellent pictures to be proud of.

We have found that the great majority of digital cameras offer a greater tolerance than film in tricky lighting conditions. As poor exposure has always been the most common complaint from compact 35mm film camera users, it is very rare that we see a poorly exposed digital picture.

Film for Digital Cameras

The modern version of "film" is the memory card. Of course there isn't really any such thing as film for digital cameras. There are several popular systems currently in use. None offer any great advantage's over the others. It is simply a case of camera manufacturers choosing a certain form of memory card for their range. Most common cards currently available are Memorystick, SD, xD and compactflash. All cards can be partially or fully erased at any time. Images can be stored on your computer or copied to a CD for storage either at home if you have a CD burner or by your local camera store or high street processor. Click to view our Memory Card Range. Or if you would like to find out which memory card your camera takes try navigating to your camera using the menu above. You can view the camera specification or navigate through the accessories list (Under "Cameras") to your camera - we have also added links to the bottom of each of those pages to the specific memory card for that camera.

Digital Macro Mode

Most cameras have an excellent close-focus, or macro, feature so that you can record images of flowers, coins or other small items from a matter of centimetres from the camera lens. All but the most basic of cameras will have a zoom lens, (a 3x zoom is common, a 6x or 10x zoom will allow you to bring faraway subjects closer to you).

Instant Photographs

The greatest feature of any digital camera is the ability to review your picture within seconds of pushing the shutter release and taking the picture. If you are not happy with the result that the cameras LCD screen is showing you simply erase the picture and try again. You need never come home with a bad picture again.

When you do return home from a days picture taking you can connect your camera to your TV with the lead supplied in your camera box* and review the days digital photography in the comfort of your armchair. The majority of digital cameras now also have a short burst movie mode built into their feature list. This may or not have an audio track depending on the model chosen. This is a great feature for catching the atmosphere of a special moment. When connected to a home P.C. you can then e-mail pictures and movie to friends & family at any corner of the world.

Getting your photographs developed

Now that all high street camera stores and chemists are offering high quality picture processing from your cameras memory card, digital photography has become more popular than ever as your pictures can be processed in much the same way as your old fashioned film always was. Long lasting pictures of superb quality from your digital camera that can also be saved onto a CD by your high street store. Who can now argue the case for film cameras?

*TV playback is available on most cameras
