Teleconverters

These accessories multiply the effective focal length of an attached lens by a factor. For example, a 200mm lens with a 1.4x teleconverter has an effective focal length of 280mm: with the 2x teleconverter, this increases to 400mm. Not all lenses will retain auto focus with a teleconverter attached and you will loose 1-2 stops of light depending on which teleconverter is being used.

Canon Teleconverters

These Canon teleconverters connect between the SLR body and lens and increase the focal length of your Canon lens by either 1.4 or 2 times depending on the converter model being used. These converters are only compatible with Canon L series lenses. A stop or two of light is lost when using a teleconverter.

Kenko Teleconverters

Kenko teleconverters are available in various magnifications and multiply the effective focal length of an attached lens by a factor.

Nikon Teleconverters

These teleconverters increase the effective focal length of the lens currently in use. Compatible with AF-I and AF-S Nikon lenses they increase the reproduction ratio and shorten the depth of field of the lens in use without affecting the closest focusing distance. A stop or two of light is lost when using a teleconverter.

Olympus Teleconverters

A teleconverter increases the focal length of the lens currently in use by either 1.4x or 2.0x - depending on the particular model. You do lose a stop or 2 of light when using a teleconverter. A teleconverter is ideal for sports and nature photography, you can turn your Zuiko 300mm f2.8 into a 420mm f4 (35mm equivalent 840mm f4.0) by just attaching the teleconverter inbetween the body and lens.

Sigma Teleconverters

These Sigma teleconverters connect between the SLR body and lens and increase the focal length of your Sigma lens by either 1.4 or 2 times depending on the converter model being used. A stop or two of light is lost when using a tele converter. Only compatible with certain EX series lenses, please check compatibility on Sigma's site here.
