I bought this lens as a replacement for the older model supplied as part of a camera and lens package 4 years ago which had been damaged recently due to some rough handling. The finish of the Mk II seems poorer lacking both the metallic trim of the earlier model and also the touch locatable white index alignment marker present on my other Canon lenses. The earlier model is still available on-line from other suppliers but at a significantly higher price. However in terms of performance I cannot differentiate between the old and new versions. Significantly Bristol Cameras supplied the lens at a price almost £70 lower than quoted by a major high street chain for the same version so this represented unbeatable value.
