I have owned this for about 3 months and used it heavily, it was a replacement/upgrade for my 350D. I actually bought a D30 back in 2000/2001 and whilst I loved the 350D, the thing I missed on that were the twin thumb wheels you only get on the full metal bodied cameras. Why this is important is I shoot manual and it means I can keep my eyes on the action but change aperture and shutter fast as I'm shooting.
As to Live Preview, well it doesn't turn me on but it works. As a DSLR, it is the Mutts Nuts, solid and handles very well. I got it when Canon were doing a £100 cash back so on top of being a great camera, it was also a sweet deal.

Having owned the EOS 40D for just over 2 weeks, I have not yet had the chance to get to grips with every aspect of it's features, but my rather premature opinion of the Canon EOS 40D is that it is an excellent camera for the price.
The EOS 40D is a reasonably priced semi professional digital SLR with 10.1 Mega Pixels with a very solid construction. It also supports non dedicated flash units (PC).
Image quality is better than that offered by the 400D series. The 6.5 fps shooting is easily fast enough for my needs. The 3" LCD screen with live view feature is excellent.

Canon EOS 40D Body Question Date Added: 6th September 2008
Question: Hi, I have upgraded from an EOS 300D to an EOS 40D. I use it for fishing and the RC-1 remote was ok. I have now bought a RS-80N3 remote but need to extend its working distance as its to short for self portrait use.
Is there anything I can buy other than the very expensive LC-5 remote to resolve this problem. I need about 2m extension.
Bristol Cameras Answer: Hi, there is an extension cable for the RS-80N3 remote called the ET-1000N3 which will increase the cord length by 10 metres and is available on our website. Alternatively you could look at the Hahnel HRC 280 Remote Shutter Release and the Hahnel HWC 433 Long Distance Wireless Remote Control which would be good alternatives. Hope this is of help to you. |
