I wear spectacles and had difficulty getting the whole view through the viewfinder - unable at times to see both sides of the frame. The extender has made viewing so much better and easier. It cuts nothing out of my view and it saves me squashing my face up against the camera. Although the image appears slightly further away and consequently a little smaller, it is definitely worth the sacrifice to me.

If you wear glasses like me this can be a real help, although at first the smaller image seems hard to get use to, in no time I found it easier on the eye.
The main plus I think is that it gives you a clearer view of the whole frame, but it really could come down to what sort of glasses you wear and prescription.
