This is a good quality lens hood from Canon, it is well made and has a snug fit, and once fixed to the front of the lens with a quick twist it doesn't move. It is made from tough plastic with a flock lining to reduce stray light and reflections from the inner surfaces. It helps reduce flair when shooting into the sun - something that this lens has a bit of a reputation for. The hood can be fitted on backwards for storage, and although the lens can be used with it like this, zooming becomes difficult because the hood then covers much of the zoom ring.

Bristol Cameras Answer: The EW83J lens hood is only compatible with the Canon EF-S 17-55 f2.8 lens. The hood you need for the 18-55m f3.5-5.6 lens is the Canon EW60C.
