A very simple tool to help with remote shutter release, ideal for macro work, or if the camera is on the tripod at an awkward angle.

Very useful device, I looked at the more complex remote that included lots of exposure options but that was far too complicated. This will do the job just fine.

The RS80N3 remote switch is specified by Canon for the EOS 40D. It clips into a dedicated socket at the side of the camera and is fully keyed to prevent accidental damage to the very fine pins in the socket. When fitted, the top of the plug is pressed in which "locks" it in the socket. It is released by pulling on a collar surrounding the plug. This mechanism prevents accidental dislodging of the plug. The cable leads forward, away from the screen, view-finder and controls.
The release is operated by pressing on a button, which provides the same two-stage auto-focus functionality as the camera shutter release. The button can be locked down for delay or bulb exposures.
