It was a choice between this and the Canon grip.
Obvisouly I chose this, and have found the remote control to be useful while taking self-portraits.
I needed to make sure I push the end by the battery compartment in slightly while screwing it on - there's a cut-off switch that ditn't make contact otherwise - but it works absolutely fine when that's sited correctly.
It seems light, build quality wise, but for the price, and particually if you want a remote control comes recommended.

The quality of this grip is not as good as Canon's, and the rotating controls when used as a vertical grip do not move as smoothly. The remote control could also do with a safety switch to prevent it being activated in a camera bag.
But as Canon do not offer an infra-red remote control for their EOS 20D/30D/40D cameras it is a unique product.
