I went to Focus on Imaging 2009 at the NEC 2 weeks ago and tried lots of monopods, the Manfrotto 776YB M-Y was the lightest and most compact of all at the show. I think it is sturdy enough to support my Canon digital slr with either standard or medium telephoto lens but light enough not to put me off carrying it when out walking, or packing in a suitcase if going further afield.
