For years I've carried my tripod around on a shoulder strap but decided that not only was it getting knocked about but it was scratching the car's interior. I now wish I'd bought the bag earlier, because it is so much more comfortable to carry and stops the tripod digging you in the back as you walk or banging against your hip.
