The flash gun is inexpensive and is contained in a well made robust plastic case although the ISO slider on the back seems to come out of its runner if not entirely straight when it is moved. The auto cut off feature attempts to automate the flash by cutting off dependent on the amount of light reflected from the surface of the subject. This works relatively well. It has 3 settings dependent on what sensitivity you have set but I found these to cut off too late, causing over exposure so it is necessary to set it one setting lower than you need or set the aperture down one stop. The instructions have no diagrams and are a little hard to follow, but the set up of the flash is very similar to most other manual flash guns I have used so, with a little playing around you can soon get a well exposed picture. It has a low trigger voltage so I guess it is suitable for most digital cameras. Far cheaper than a TTL flash and good value for money if you have a non TTL hot shoe.

Metz 36 C-2 is my first external flashgun. I am extremely happy with my purchase. It just does magic in low-light conditions. One the bad note though, the instruction manual is not covering too much of the technique required to use it - you will need to know the stuff already, or have an access to information sources. Overall, extremely happy with my purchase. For that price (?60 at the time), you can't go wrong. I am using it with Finepix HS10.
