The Nikon HB-35 is a specifically tailored lens hood for use on the 18-200mm DX lens and is usable throughout the focal length range of the lens. The price of the lens hood is reasonable considering it is a proprietary product specific to this lens. The lens replaced another HB-35 after about 4 years of use when a more delicate part of the lens hood that comes into contact with the 'threads' on the lens wore away making retention of the lens hood on the lens unreliable. The lesson to learn is to avoid repeated removal and attachment of the lens hood and perhaps to limit its use to more essential occasions when the sun is in the lens or when it might provide some protection of the glass from rain etc.

So please to find that I could buy a new lens hood ex-stock after breaking my old one paragliding, it is so difficult to use a wide angle lens without a hood.
