Things I liked: Very sharp with no perceptable CA ('purple fringing') or fall-off at the corners. Less distortion than expected, almost perfect at mid to long zooms, some barrel at w/angle. Low internal reflections indicating coatings are effective. Fast autofocus motors. Ergonomic manual focus and zoom rings. Good close focus.
Why I chose this lens: Useful zoom range, a '24mm' w/angle is rare on a wide-range zoom. Be nice to have a longer telephoto, but then performance would have suffered or price higher. f2.8 (at w/a) is better than kit lenses. What I didnt like: Its heavy (on E520), but helps stability. Expensive, but not for a pro-lens.

Since buying an E300 in 2005 and the 50-200mm in 2006, I've been deliberating over which wide-angle lens to buy. The 7-14mm was always too much to justify, and the 11-22mm felt like it wanted to come with the 14-54mm. Then along came this one and solved my dilemma with a single, very impressive lens. The optics are excellent, focusing seems pretty quick, even with the E300, and the build quality and feel are up to Olympus's usual high standard. The only minor niggle was that I had to upgrade the Camera for the lens to be properly recognised and focusing to work properly, despite being at a compatible version according to Olympus.
