Write your own Olympus 9-18mm f4-5.6 Zuiko Digital ED Lens Review

My initial results are encouraging. The lens is not much bigger than the 14-42mm and images seem sharp. At 9mm (18mm equivalent) the perspective can look pretty weird and you do need to either keep the camera vertical or straighten converging lines in Photoshop. Having said that, the sense of being up close to your subject - whether a group of people or a building - really adds to the atmosphere of a picture. I think this lens is going to be good fun.

Full marks to Bristol cameras for fast delivery - the lens arrived before I could tell my wife I'd bought it!!
Early indications are that the lens is excellent. I'm using it on Leica Digilux 3 which works flawlessly with Olympus lenses (I also have the 50-200 f2.8-3.5). Definition is very crisp across the whole image, with just a trace of barrel distortion at the widest setting. You do have to watch the verticals unless you are looking deliberately to distort perspective. Colour rendition is excellent. The only flaw is the lens hood which is danerously loose in fit. I've already decured it with black Pvc tape to avoid loss or accidental vignetting if not located fully.
