Bought this lens 2 weeks ago and the service from Bristol Cameras was excellent. 5 stars for that. The lens is big, solid and heavy. It is taking a bit of getting used to but the results are coming. Hand held some of the pictures at full zoom look a bit soft but others are pin sharp with amazing detail. So I am assuming its my technique thats at fault and not the lens. The OS works very well and really does give you an advantage hand held at slow speed.
On a tripod the results are consistantly excellent at all lengths and apertures. I mean amazing details down to being able to count the pores on someones skin at full zoom range. Excellent value lens and well recommended

I bought this lens mostly for wildlife shooting, and also for use at motorsport events. So far I have only managed to try it on the former at WWT Slimbridge, I am very happy with the results, crisp, sharp images despite the flat light conditions on the day; the OS earnt its money too as it meant I didn't need to lug a tripod around with me.
Although the lens includes a zoom lock to keep it at the 120mm end, I've found mine is properly torqued and doesn't creep even without the lock on.
It is a tad heavy for a walk-about lens, but if you get a decent strap it is not too bad:- the strap on the lens case is far too short unless simply slung over one shoulder which is a bit risky, an old / spare laptop bag strap sorts that though.
I found I couldn't fit the lens into my Lowepro Orion Trekker II in its case (let alone on the camera) but a Slingshot 300 holds it nicely, with a battery grip on the camera body and leaving the tripod mount on the lens.
The tripod mount can only be removed with the lens detached from the body, a bit odd but not a massive inconvenience.
I would certainly be happy to recommend this lens to others. Mine is the Canon-compatible version, though they're likely to be much of a muchness.

An upgrade to the Sigma 135-400. The optical stabilisation works well despite critics who say otherwise. Resolution improved over the 135-400, just as sharp at 400 as at 120. A good buy for a general use medium telephoto.

many thanks andy.
Bristol Cameras Answer: Hi, this lens (in Canon fit) would be fine when used on a Canon EOS 400D including AF operation. However if you attach either the 1.4x or 2x Sigma EX converter then you would only have manual focus.
