Lens technology has advanced quietly in the shadow of digital imaging. This lens has remarkable ability to capture extraordinary images of interiors without the distortions associated with "Fish eye" lenses. It also has the ability to focus up close. All with the speed and simplicity of total automation. Extraordinary

I had been looking for a wide angle lens for my Nikon D60 intensively for nearly a month. I had briefly considered the Nikon 12-24mm but it is very expensive and doesn't significantly out perform the Sigma - the Sigma is a very significant 2mm wider too. The Sigma is not a fish-eye - so verticals stay vertical - that is, all the time you do! The quality feels every bit as good as my Nikon 18-55mm VR lens. Its just slightly larger in diameter. I often read people who aren't engineers (clearly) whingeing about the use of plastics. I cannot see a problem, polymers are perfect - light, self-lubricating, thermally-dimensionally stable, lend themselves to production of extremely precise components - repeatedly and consistently and cheaply - providing the designer chooses the correct polymer - in this lens they have. The lens comes with hood, a revised lens front cover (so use is possible with hood in place) and a useful carry case. The autofocus motor (HSM) works smoothly and very rapidly in complete silence and clearly it and the camera talk to each other without problem. What a piece of glass it is as well - much prettier and clever than jewellery!! Now what does it perform like - FANTASTIC! You can get right in there - forcing the viewer of your picture right into it. Get in close with the wideangle and really use the depth you get and you won't be disappointed by this lens. (But don't use to to "get it all in" - take two shots with a standard lens moving to the side a bit with the second and stitch them together in software as a panorama) The pictures can be stunning if you do your bit. At the mundane end - I'm sure creative real-estate agents will like it for internal shots - to the creative end where you can get right into the foreground all the way to the end of the background - as a friend remarked about one of my shots with it - "it's like being there and looking". Colour rendition is excellent, flare no more than any other wide angle when bright light sources are in frame and less that some I've used. What more can I say? It's not cheap in absolute terms but for a very wide lens it's a bargain. If you want a good very wide lens then buy it - you will not be disappointed.

A fantastic lens that produces surprisingly sharp clear pictures. Despite it's lack of zoom and limited F-stop range I used it in New York for 4 days and rarely changed it as it coped wonderfully. This is a brilliant lens for the money and is a cost effective alternative to the Nikon equivalent. Buy it and you won't be disappointed.

What a super lens, excellent sharpness, good colour and clarity, 10 - 20mm equiv to 20 - 40mm on my four thirds camera, next nearest lenses from Olympus are 7 - 14mm and 11 - 22mm. 11-22 now quite old but still cost £500+, 7-14mm super lens but at 3 times the cost of the Sigma, way out of my price range. Sigma sometimes not rated too highly due to quality issues in past, but build quality looks superb, sigma also now offering 3 year warranty for registering online. On the basis of this lens I would not hesitate to purchase another Sigma product, fantastic value.

After hearing in various places that some copies of this lens have focus problems on the left edge, I was pleased to find that my copy seems perfectly fine.
You get an extraordinary angle of view and I've enjoyed this product very much so far.
Note that apparently a HSM version of this lens has been released for the Pentax fit, which despite needing to re-stock mine wasn't one of them... although I don't know if this really effects its functionality in any way, might be worth checking...
