Amazingly lightweight for a full size tripod. Be aware that inevitably you compromise sturdiness for lightness. While perfectly adequate for my D60 with kit lens (indoors), it was unusable with the 70-300VR. I've ordered a sturdier ball-head for use with the heavy lens, hopefully that will do the trick.

Bristol Cameras Answer: Hi, yes you can remove the head on this tripod which will give you a standard 1/4 inch thread to attach a head of your choice.
