Write your own Steiner SkyHawk 8x42 Binocular Review

We wanted a pair of binoculars primarily for bird watching in the garden and the field beyond. After reading reviews and seeking general guidance, we decided that an 8x40 (or thereabouts) pair with close focus capabilities would be best. In truth, there was no real killer reason to choose a Steiner product as most brand name manufacturers have an "ideal for birdwatching" range and all claim to be best in some way or other. However, the excellent Steiner reputation did weigh and the fast close focus feature down to 2.1 metres seemed better than most. We are by no means experts in these things but we can say that the Steiners are very obviously a high quality product, robust in construction and the optical performance (to us anyway) is terrific. The image is bright and clear. Our model has a heavy duty rubber covering which adds to weight and when you first pick them up, they are heavier than you expect. To get a rough idea, try holding a half kilo bag of sugar up to your face for a while. They actually weigh 635gms. They come with detachable object lens covers, a high quality soft carry case with long strap, an excellent lanyard and some little clip holders to attach to the lanyard for in use storage of lens covers etc. The lanyard and covers attach to the body of the binoculars using the Steiner ClicLoc catches. These are very positive and secure in use but can be harder to un-latch than expected. The eye pieces are fitted with soft rubber contoured cups that can be folded back if you wear specs but are not detachable nor extendible. Lastly, you get a little cleaning cloth and a multi-language, multi model user guide. They are covered by a 10 year guarantee and all in all, we are very pleased with them.

Steiner SkyHawk 8x42 Binocular Question Date Added: 4th July 2009
Question: Can you supply a spare strap for the Steiner 10x42 Skyhawk binocular?
Bristol Cameras Answer: Hi, just heard back from Steiner UK. They have the straps in stock, price is £22 inc VAT. As they are not on our site you would need to call the sales line on 0844 991 8338 (5 pence/min). We would need the serial number of your binoculars in order to make sure we receive the correct strap so please also give this at the time of placing your order. |
