Lightweight and compact wide angle zoom lens with a fast f2.8 maximum aperture across the zoom range. Designed for digital SLR cameras with an APS-C sized sensor. 35mm equivalent focal length of 26-78mm. Nikon fit version has a built in AF motor so is compatible with Nikon D40 / D40x / D60 / D3100 / D5100 cameras. 27cm close focus. 67mm filter thread. Dedicated flower shaped lens hood included. Tamron lenses purchased from 1st April 2010 will now come with a 5 year warranty.

An excellent lens - especially as a faster upgrade from the kit lens which comes with most DSLR bodies. Ideal in the darker winter months to squeeze a bit more light out of the shot. There's a tiny amount of vignetting from the lens hood at the 17mm end, but nothing to worry about or that Photoshop won't allow you to correct in the raw converter or elsewhere (or take the hood off!). Great value and a must have piece of standard lens.

This is disturbingly good lens for the money, in fact its one of the best bargains you'll be able to lay your hands on. Its easily one of my sharpest lenses, rivaling most manufacturer's own-brand glass. Flare is moderately well controlled, but don't shoot directly into the sun otherwise you'll get ghosting and contrast will plummet. Focussing is average, the built-in micro-motor is somewhat of a disappointment, but far from an issue. Ultimately though, the photos this lens produces are immense. Sharp, vivid and good quality through the entire aperture range. I haven't seen a better lens in this focal range for less than ?600!
