I bought the Tamron on the recommendation of a colleague and it has more than lived up to his expansive critique! The lens is a real go anywhere, fit and forget lens and great for travel and one doesn't need to carry a bag full of shorter range zooms 'just in case'. The telephoto end suffers some minor abberations at the edge of the frame but generally it is sharp and colour neutral. I guess I use it most at the wide angle end and mostly for landscapes, here I can find no fault and coupled to my 350D I get excellent, natural colour and fine definition. I notice I'm always one stop in from maximum so distortion is not an issue. All in all an excellent lens.

First impressions of this lens are that it is excellent value for money and I am very happy with it so far. I have not had the opportunity to use it for long but so far the images are crystal clear at both 18 and 200mm. The lens itself also seems very robust and sturdy, but it is not so heavy as to make it unusable for everyday shots. My only criticism so far is that the AF seems to 'search' for a very long time in lower light (on a Sony A200K) and so in this situation it is better to use MF, which is not a problem for me as I prefer to shoot with MF anyway! On the whole though definately more than adequate as an all-round lens for a wide range of shots!
