Metz 58 AF-1 Flashgun by Paul Howard

Date Added: Thursday 03 April, 2008

Metz 58 AF-1 Flashgun The Metz 58 is fiddly to operate. The modelling light is fantastic but is accessed by menu, totally impractical. I set up the Metz on full manual power at 105mm zoom and tested it against an old Nikon SB-80DX on the same settings. Measured on a Minolta 3 flash meter. At 100 ASA and the same distance, Metz. F11.5 the Nikon SB-80DX F16.5. The rest of the menu system was inferior to the Nikon and the foot lock too . I have owned over many years Metz 402's then 60's and a 45 flash. I brought the 58 on the reputation of those earlier guns, but the 58 is simply not in the same league in output, nor the same league as the Nikon in practical operational use.

Olympus MJU 1030 SW Digital Camera by Barry Juchau

Date Added: Thursday 03 April, 2008

Olympus MJU 1030 SW Digital Camera I have just become the proud owner of a U1030SW camera. What a great peice of kit. Bit heaver than a normal camera but it is so tough its worth the extra weight. Use tha olympus card and then you can do the panoramic photos. It is quick to turn on and even at 10mp it saves the photo quickly, I love the choice of scenes and the screen is clear and a nice size. Still suffers a bit in very bright sun but not as bad as other cameras I have used. I love the size, its easy to use, I havnt dropped it yet but you never know. I think you have realized that I cannot fault the camera yet, would like a bigger zoom. Well worth the money.

Olympus Floating Handstrap For MJU SW Series Cameras by Barry Juchau

Date Added: Thursday 03 April, 2008

Olympus Floating Handstrap For MJU SW Series Cameras I purchased the floating wrist sttrap for a MJU 1030 sw underwater camera. I am pleased to say that I tested it in the fish pond before taking it into deep water. I dropped it in and it went straight to the bottom. It will not support the 1030 in fresh water. I have not tried it in salt water but I do not expect much difference. I have rated it bad for this camera only. It is well made and I think will be good for a lighter camera.

Crumpler PP90 Camera Case by Patrick Krause

Crumpler PP90 Camera Case This is an amazing bag! My Lumix TZ2 (or TZ3) sits snugly in it. At a low price it is excellent value for money.

Joby Gorillapod by Patrick Krause

Joby Gorillapod This tripod is truly excellent! You can put it nearly anyware and get beautiful photos. A really god buy

Sandisk 512Mb SD Memory Card by Patrick Krause

Date Added: Friday 28 March, 2008

Sandisk 512Mb SD Memory Card this is a really crappy card because it has a poor read/write speed and is only good for cameras with a tiny MP resolution i.e 8mp cameras will only be able to store about 30 photos in high resolution. If you are looking for a budget card, look for something about 1-2 GB because the are almost always better value for money

Panasonic Lumix TZ2 by Patrick Krause

Date Added: Friday 28 March, 2008

Panasonic Lumix TZ2 I brought this camera because I wanted a reasonably cheap yet high quality camera. Its zoom is incredible for a compact digital. The resolution is good and photos come out crisp & clear, I recomend buying the sandisk ultra II 8GB for this camera so you can store a good amount of photos very quickly. Overall this is a very good camera even if you are a nube or experert in the feild of photography. This is a must have !!!!

Manfrotto 709B Digi Table Tripod by David Allsopp

Date Added: Tuesday 04 March, 2008

Manfrotto 709B Digi Table Tripod This tripod is tiny (18cm long when folded) but very solidly made. The 12cm legs fold out smoothly and positively. The collar of the ballhead rotates so you can angle the camera in any direction. The tripod will firmly support my medium-sized SLR with a chunky zoom lens (Canon 20D, 17-40L) in landscape orientation, but cannot hold it in vertical orientation - the centre of gravity is too off-centre and the tripod tips over - this is the only downside to this product.

Canon Powershot A650 IS by Matthew Wharton

Date Added: Sunday 02 March, 2008

Canon Powershot A650 IS I am no expert on cameras but I wanted more than just a ‘point and shoot’ I didn’t want to lumber around a big SLR so I went for this. I certainly have a lot to learn, there are so many features on this camera! At first I was a bit daunted with all the settings available but now I have messed about with it I must say the camera is superb. I was at a football match yesterday and was able to zoom to a stand at the opposite end of the stadium and pick out a mate! Wow! The 6X optical zoom is fantastic. Camera looks great, stylish and not as bulky as I feared as some reports sated this. Cons - \'Slightly\' heavy, manuals are in PDF on a CD, would much prefer a proper manual.

Velbon Sherpa 435 Tripod by Julian Birch

Date Added: Saturday 09 February, 2008

Velbon Sherpa 435 Tripod This tripod is excellent value for money. I ordered on a Friday and got it the next morning - well done Bristol Cameras. The tripod's great, is high enough for me & I'm 6'2" yet still packs down very short and has a handy bag with adjustable shoulder strap. It feels solid but still light enough to be taken out & about. It's well machined and loaded with plenty of great features like 3 different spirit levels on the head, the reversable and splittable centre column and two position legs (with a quick realease angle lock) mean you can use the tripod really low or the camera underneath the tripod for macro work etc. Great piece of kit & at this price you can't go wrong!

Sunpak PF30X Flashgun by rainbow digital

Date Added: Thursday 31 January, 2008

Sunpak PF30X Flashgun The main issue with this flashgun would be the recycling time which takes forever (8-10 secs as per specs). But try slipping in a couple of 3500mAh NiMh fully recharged and recycling time goes down to an amazing 2secs! YES! 2 SECONDS!

Velbon Sherpa Pro CF535 & PH157Q by Dave Williams

Date Added: Sunday 23 December, 2007

Velbon Sherpa Pro CF535 & PH157Q For most of us, a tripod is hardly used as we complain it weighs too much to carry when we go out. So for me it was essential the tripod was lightweight, yet still sturdy enough to do the job. Well this tripod fits the bill nicely. The use of carbon fibre legs has kept weight to a minimum. With a head attached, & column fully extended it will easily reach 6ft to the viewfinder of a normal SLR. With a splitable column it\'s also possible to spread the tripod legs wide to get ultra low shots. Best of both worlds. The foam sleeves to the legs make for comfy carrying, plus also keep you hands that bit warmer , for those brave enough to shoot outside in the winter. I honestly don\'t think the tripod can be beaten for the money.

Metz 48 AF-1 Flashgun by GLS Master

Date Added: Wednesday 19 December, 2007

Metz 48 AF-1 Flashgun The Metz 48 AF-1 digital is a powerful flashgun with a lot of settings. It produces well exposed shots. Wireless master slave functionality, second curtain synchronization, modeling light, flash bracketing, built-in diffuser and reflector card are all there. You get the whole package with this unit. Basically this flash looks good, feels good and performs good. So just watch out for the weak tilting lock, make sure you like the user interface and dont mind the -for Can- inscription.

Nikon D300 Body by john miles

Date Added: Thursday 06 December, 2007

Nikon D300 Body This is an excellent piece of kit, it is fast on start up and the auto focus is fast and precise. Quality of the of the pictures is very high with shaded areas having good detail. The menus are easy to access the camera is a delight to use.

Lowepro D-Res 10AW Camera Case by John Lovell

Date Added: Saturday 17 November, 2007

Lowepro D-Res 10AW Camera Case At £6.99 this case has got to be a steal. Quality, secure protection for a slim camera, memory card and batteries. Keeps the rain out and is ideal for those who enjoy the great outdoors.

Manfrotto 055XPROB Tripod by Andrew Lee

Date Added: Wednesday 31 October, 2007

Manfrotto 055XPROB Tripod Have always dreamt of owning a quality tripod and after purchasing this and the 484RC2 head I have to say the quality of build is excellent. Only wish I'd had one of these years ago. One slight niggle though is the fact that the grub screws in the tripod platform do not make contact with the head I purchased. I have contacted Bristol Cameras and mentioned this and perhaps they can let others know in their FAQ. However this is, for me at least, not a requirement and if you looking for a very well built, quality tripod, at this price it is a real bargain. Thanks BC

Canon Powershot G9 by John Haynes

Date Added: Thursday 20 September, 2007

Canon Powershot G9 The G9 It is a truly lovely bit of kit and I have absolutely no negatives about the camera though a slight gripe about Canon not providing a printed manual, it\'s an Acrobat pdf file on a CD, a bit mean. The camera handles very well, the back screen lightens and darkens as you change the settings which although is not a \"stop down\" mode does grab your attention as to which way to go with manual settings. The supplied Canon software allows you to see the Raw files but if you use Adobe Photoshop, Bridge and Lightroom, the latest Raw patch is needed for the first two and an upgrade to Lightroom 1.2 is required, the same would be required if someone bought a Canon D40.

Canon EOS 5D Body With FREE Remote Switch by Peter BOVIS

Date Added: Thursday 19 July, 2007

Canon EOS 5D Body With FREE Remote Switch I received my EOS 5D from Bristol Cameras on the 18 July 2007. First impressions are awesome piece of camera gear. Moving up from the EOS 350D I find the viewfinder and grip so much better. Canon still have some strange "button" placements often commented about on the web, but overall I think this is a great camera and I am looking forward to giving it an extended workout over the coming weekend. One piece of advice, this camera does need "good" lens, the full frame sensor will quickly show up poor "glass", luckily I opted for Canon "L" glass fom day one, am I happy.
