Hama Ball And Socket Head 20mm (5011) by Andrew Langley      Date Added: Thursday 12 June, 2014

Hama Ball And Socket Head 20mm (5011)Nice bit of kit. Only one problem it's not man enough to support my Canon 450D SLR camera. It would be fine for a compact camera. I've rated it as good as a component though it's poor for my application.

Velbon PH-157Q 3 Way Head by Frank Rudolph      Date Added: Monday 02 June, 2014

Velbon PH-157Q 3 Way HeadThe PH-157Q is an excellent head with horizontal and vertical movement through a single lever, which my wife prefers over the several other, more expensive, heads I use, particularly for a spotting scope. My previous one wore out after some heavy use and I've surrendered, to her delight, to replace it. The good price attracted me to Bristol Cameras, and deliver was prompt with excellent packaging. I was particularly pleased that the package included an option of fitting to either 1/4 or 3/8 tripod connection.

Larmor Screen Protector For Sony NEX-6Brilliant replacement for the substandard Sony plastic film. There are countless tales of screens delaminating and gradually obscuring the image. I had that plus nose marks and spectacle scratches on the plastic. The Larmor glass item it easy to fit (and remove)superb quality and has revived my love for the camera. EasyCover Silicone Skin For Nikon 1 V1 by Paul Esaw      Date Added: Saturday 09 November, 2013

EasyCover Silicone Skin For Nikon 1 V1Great ergonomic feel without being bulky. Very little additional weight is incurred. Additional plus points to the advertised spec are: The thumb plate on the case is raised and shaped for comfort and at the same time keeping your thumb clear of the control dials. You can gain access to the HDMI cable ports without having to remove the case. You get two LCD screen protectors and dust cloth inc. one of which is made of hard perspex, which slots in place into a pre molded channel around the rim of the LCD screen opening and is held securely in place but can also be removed too.

Pentax SMC 8-24mm XW Zoom Eyepiece by Paul Tomlinson      Date Added: Wednesday 27 March, 2013

Pentax SMC 8-24mm XW Zoom EyepieceA stunning eyepiece! For use with my Celestron C8. It's a big EP and heavy too and not par focal across it's zoom range, but excellent eye relief and arguably the best performing zoom EP out there. Cheapest I could find by a long way from Bristol Cameras who also provided excellent communication and a delivery time of about one week. Buy one, you won't be disappointed!

Sigma 77mm Circular Polariser EX DG by Andrew Farmer      Date Added: Monday 11 February, 2013

Sigma 77mm Circular Polariser EX DGI did a fair bit of research on getting a circular polariser before deciding to go with the Sigma. This is not a popular choice but from the people whom have tried it, they have pretty much been very impressed with its performance to the point of swapping out the older filters and replaced with the Sigma. As I was to be using this with a Sigma 10 - 20mm, prime 50mm F1.4 and a Canon 24 - 105mm, I was lucky they was all the same size, 77mm thread so decided to get a good quality filter. The Sigma is a very good filter, with stunning results. Also, as it is very thin, it is great to use on a wide angle lens such as the Sigma 10 - 20mm. It is giving just as good a results as some of the B+W ones I tried which was significantly more expensive. Also, Bristol Cameras was one of the cheapest place for these filters, nearly 30 cheaper than everywhere else I looked. Andy

Hahnel HRC 280 Remote Shutter Release by Andrew Farmer      Date Added: Monday 11 February, 2013

Hahnel HRC 280 Remote Shutter ReleaseI have always used the Canon range of accessories for my 40D but decided I would take a punt on the Hahnel 280 shutter release. I had seen numerous cheaper alternatives but they just did not appeal, if anything looking really cheap. I was not disappointed when it arrived and it does exactly what it needs to, a basic shutter release but with the 2 meter extension, it really makes it more versatlile. A light press works the auto focus with a full press giving full shutter release. It also has the locking facility incase you are going for a long exposure shot on the cameras bulb setting. I am glad I did not pay double for the genuine Canon part.

Canon TC-DC58E Tele Conversion Lens For Powershot G15 by Joanne Mead      Date Added: Saturday 19 January, 2013

Canon TC-DC58E Tele Conversion Lens For Powershot G15This attachment is very substantial and well made. It comes with its own push-fit lens hood and both store nicely in the supplied pouch. You need the adapter to connect it to the G15, but the whole assembly is solid and the camera still feels balanced. 200mm might not seem a lot, but it does provide a useful bit of additional reach. The price on this website is more than 40 cheaper than anywhere else. What you save on this pays for the adapter itself. Go for it!

Olympus CLA-T01 Conversion Lens AdapterI bought the CLA-T01 Conversion Lens Adapter to be able to mount 40.5 mm filters on my Olympus TG-1. In particular a polarising filter. It does the job, but it's plasticky and over-priced for what it is. The filter I bought to go with it is a Marumi DHG circular PL(D) 40.5 mm filter. It fits nicely. The adaptor comes with a lens cap which I thought I'd have to buy separately.

Sigma 70-300mm f4-5.6 APO Macro DG Lens Sony Fitting by S Green      Date Added: Tuesday 11 December, 2012

Sigma 70-300mm f4-5.6 APO Macro DG Lens Sony FittingA fantastic lens for the price giving good crisp shots in both telephoto and macro settings. This is a replacement for the exact same lens which had given me great service over many years. The original finally gave up after years of robust use and being dragged through the outback of Australia and the deserts of Namibia. I had no hesitation in replacing it with the Sigma model over the more expensive Sony equivalent.

Canon 17-40mm f4.0 L USM EF LensHad heard several fantastic reviews about this lens, so exchanged the 18-55 kit lens and 28-135 intermediate (with some cash) for the 17-40. Wow! Stunning image quality, silent autofocus, superb colour rendition and contrast. It is not image stabilised, so low light shooting without a tripod is virtually impossible, however a great L lens at a cracking price.

Just Digital SLR Sensor Cleaning Multipack - Type 2 by J Coad      Date Added: Sunday 26 August, 2012

Just Digital SLR Sensor Cleaning Multipack - Type 2After a year's use, the sensor of my Nikon D7000 was in dire need of a clean. Haven't done this before, but the kit instructions were easy to follow. The dust particles did not respond to the blower, but the first attempt with the sensor swab removed most of them. Encouraged by this easy process, the second swab finished the task. The pack is most convenient for the travelling photographer, containing enough items to clean lenses etc. A highly recommended kit for anyone who has yet to clean his/her camera sensor.

Nikon 13-40x / 20-60x / 25-75x MC II Zoom Eyepiece (BDB90075) by Huw Thomas      Date Added: Monday 13 August, 2012

Nikon 13-40x / 20-60x / 25-75x MC II Zoom Eyepiece (BDB90075)I bought this eyepiece for my Nikon ED82 scope because I need to read collars on wild geese in the arctic...and I have to sneak up on them because during/after moult or with young...they will move off if they spot me! Given the distances sometimes involved in that landscape, a smooth zoom motion, minimising scope shake is essential and my target will be moving about. I absolutely loved this eyepiece. Compared to previous years with a much cheaper scope I had crisp and bright images through the ED82 and the zoom was more than I needed but oh so smooth. Scanning flocks and zooming in and out to read collars on individual birds was a breeze. The action is stiff enough to provide precision and control but free enough to avoid shaking the scope during operation. Naturally the more you zoom the dimmer and less precise the image but I got excellent results just between 25x and about 40x. For me this eyepiece is the perfect complement to the ED82.

Canon 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 IS II EF-S Lens by David Galvin      Date Added: Thursday 12 July, 2012

Canon 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 IS II EF-S LensI bought this lens as a replacement for the older model supplied as part of a camera and lens package 4 years ago which had been damaged recently due to some rough handling. The finish of the Mk II seems poorer lacking both the metallic trim of the earlier model and also the touch locatable white index alignment marker present on my other Canon lenses. The earlier model is still available on-line from other suppliers but at a significantly higher price. However in terms of performance I cannot differentiate between the old and new versions. Significantly Bristol Cameras supplied the lens at a price almost 70 lower than quoted by a major high street chain for the same version so this represented unbeatable value.

Fuji CP-W126 DC Coupler For AC-9V Power AdapterThis is used with the Fuji AC-9V Mains Adapter for tethered shooting etc and is a battery adapter which connects to the mains adapter. Olympus 50mm f2.0 ED Macro Zuiko Digital Lens by Victor Breeze      Date Added: Sunday 13 May, 2012

Olympus 50mm f2.0 ED Macro Zuiko Digital LensBought this with adapter for my E-P1, having checked with Olympus that all were compatible. Want to use for flower pics and insects, and anything else! Not yet tried with flash. First impression is that focusing is a little noisey (not a problem) and slightly slower than standard zoom, but very precise at all distances. Macro seems excellent with wonderful edge-to-edge sharpness. And it's good for general shots including landscapes. But the portraits are great with shallow dof (not really possible with 14/48 zoom). It will take more experimenting to get best out of it - as with all cameras - but so far I'm really pleased.

Plustek OpticFilm 8200i SE Film Scanner by Scott Hunter      Date Added: Friday 27 April, 2012

Plustek OpticFilm 8200i SE Film ScannerGreat little enthusiast scanner. Very easy to setup (Mac OS), quiet, fast previews and produces pleasing results. No problems there, you'll wonder why you bothered with a flatbed. Totally on price point as well for what you get with the capabilities of the scanner bundle. The bundled Silverfast software however is somewhat clunky and takes a bit of time to master but can produce good consistant scans with a bit of tinkering. IR scratch and dust removal is a bit hit and miss. Really needs to be combined with photoshop post pro to get the best out of your images.

Sandisk 8GB SDHC Extreme UHS-1 Memory Card (45MB|sec)Originally went for the XC card however the guys at Bristol Cameras rang me and recommended that the HC would be more than effective for the K5. The cost allowed me to buy 2 cards for the same price as 1 XC (+2) Brilliant Service from Bristol Cameras, Only found them by chance. Can't recommend them enough.

Olympus 45mm F1.8 Zuiko Digital Micro Four Thirds Lens SilverWhat's not already been said about this lens? It's the best excuse to own a micro four thirds camera. Litepanels Micro Pro Kit by Jonathan Donovan      Date Added: Friday 02 March, 2012

Litepanels Micro Pro KitThis is a very, very handy little light. I have started using this WAY more than my lowel I.d. for its simplicity and size, low/no heat output and ability to chuck it around a bit. At the end of the day most of my shooting is location based so the light you can set up easily and quickly tends to be the one you use.

Sea & Sea YS-01 Strobe Head by S Woodall      Date Added: Wednesday 29 February, 2012

Sea & Sea YS-01 Strobe HeadAs a keen underwater photographer, I have used several strobes in the past, usually quite bulky, slower in response time, often running out of power mid-dive, so whilst I have yet to put this through a thorough test, the specs read well, and I look forward to my first diving trip.

Pentax O-GPS1 GPS Unit by Graham Hygate      Date Added: Wednesday 22 February, 2012

Pentax O-GPS1 GPS UnitReally good piece of hardware to capture the Geographical location and direction of the photographs taken. :) Battery life is a bit on the lower side but then I guess it can't be much helped about as battery consumption increases when GPS searches for satellites. Overall it is a very useful product and helping a lot in our business.

Sigma 50-500mm f4.5-6.3 APO DG OS HSM Lens Nikon Fit by Michael Wooding      Date Added: Wednesday 15 February, 2012

Sigma 50-500mm f4.5-6.3 APO DG OS HSM Lens Nikon FitI unpacked the lens and took it down to the beach. WOW - what a difference it makes. I am pleased with the quality of the pictures. Auto focus was also good on a running dog. The only slight downside is that the lens is heavy to carry over a long period of time. It will certainly be a regular on my outings in future.

Panasonic DMW-LT55 Telephoto Conversion Lens by James Begent      Date Added: Tuesday 07 February, 2012

Panasonic DMW-LT55 Telephoto Conversion LensMy camera has 18x optical zoom, which is good but not enough when you're trying to take photos of things which run or fly away. This is a good way to get better pictures from just far enough away that the wildlife doesn't feel threatened. Certainly cheaper than a new camera.

Skywatcher Universal 1.25 Inch Digiscoping Adapter (50823) by Christopher Knowles      Date Added: Monday 16 January, 2012

Skywatcher Universal 1.25 Inch Digiscoping Adapter (50823)Good for the price and easy to set up. This is not a 'proper' mount as you would expect for an SLR, but it just holds the fixed lens camera in front of the eyepiece. This is ok and takes out the wobbliness. Adjustments are fairly good. But allowing a compact digital camera to make decisions about focus and exposure when looking at a telescope eyepiece is folly! And setting a digital camera manually in the dark is a bit tricky...
