The Lab-Box is the first multi format, daylight loading film developing tank. Lab-Box is the easiest and quickest tool to develop your own films in full daylight, anywhere and at anytime, bypassing the need to load the rolls in the dark. This multi format tank has interchangeable modules and an adjustable reel meaning it can be used for both 35mm and 120 format films (120 module not included). Bypassing the need for the darkroom and compact enough to carry in a backpack, Lab-Box is ideal for both beginners and professional film photographers.

  • The Lab-Box is the first multi format, daylight loading film developing tank.
  • Lab-Box is the easiest and quickest tool to develop your own films in full daylight, anywhere and at anytime, bypassing the need to load the rolls in the dark.
  • This multi format tank has interchangeable modules and an adjustable reel meaning it can be used for both 35mm and 120 format films (120 module not included).
  • Bypassing the need for the darkroom and compact enough to carry in a backpack, Lab-Box is ideal for both beginners and professional film photographers.

The 135 Module has a film slot where the 35mm cartridge is positioned and blocked.
The film is then clipped and the lid is closed in order to rotate the outer knob and loading the film onto the reel. Once fully loaded, an internal blade will cut the film, separating it from the cartridge.

You can choose if using continuous or intermittent agitation.
With Lab-Box it is possible to choose to partially or fully submerge the reel in liquid, to experiment with different kinds of agitation:

  • Continuous agitation: filling the tank with 270ml of liquid you will only partially submerge the reel. The film has to be agitated continuously during the whole processing time by turning the outer knob.
  • Intermittent agitation: filling the tank with 500ml of liquid you will fully submerge the reel. The film can be agitated intermittently during the processing time by turning the outer knob.

  • What else do we need to purchase with this item, any liquids, specialist paper etc. I cannot see any reference to this in the description.

Chemical wise, for black and white film processing, the easiest is to use is CineStill DF96 which is a ready to use developer and fixer in one chemical (traditionally you would need a developer stage, then a stop bath and then a fix bath but DF96 brings this altogether into one stage which is really handy). This is available in ready to use 1000ml bottles and on our website here: https://www.bristolcameras.co.uk/p-cinestill-df96-developer-fix-monobath-1000ml.htm

The alternative is to use the traditional 3 or 4 step process with a developer, stop, fix and then rinse with wetting agent. There are a number of brands with these options and it often comes down to personal taste which one people end up using. Some examples below:

    Adox Rodinal (developer) – https://www.bristolcameras.co.uk/p-adox-rodinal-b-w-film-developer-concentrate-500ml.htm
Adox Adostop (stop bath) – https://www.bristolcameras.co.uk/p-adox-adostop-eco-odourless-stop-bath-1000ml-concentrate.htm
    Adox Adofix (fixer) – https://www.bristolcameras.co.uk/p-adox-adofix-plus-rapid-fixer-1000ml.htm
Adox Adoflo (wetting agent) – https://www.bristolcameras.co.uk/p-adox-adoflo-ii-universal-wetting-agent-100ml.htm

    OR

    Ilford Ilfosol 3 (developer) – https://www.bristolcameras.co.uk/p-ilford-ilfosol-3-film-developer-500ml.htm
Ilford Ilfostop (stop bath) – https://www.bristolcameras.co.uk/p-ilford-ilfostop-stop-bath-500ml.htm
    Ilford Rapid fixer – https://www.bristolcameras.co.uk/p-ilford-rapid-fixer-1-litre.htm
Ilford Ilfotol (wetting agent) – https://www.bristolcameras.co.uk/p-ilford-ilfotol-wetting-agent-1-litre.htm

Ilford also produce a neat starter pack with small pouches of each chemical in one pack, but it’s only enough to process 2 films – https://www.bristolcameras.co.uk/p-ilford-simplicity-starter-pack.htm

Tetenal also produce a starter pack with larger quantities of each chemical – https://www.bristolcameras.co.uk/p-tetenal-film-chemistry-starter-pack.htm

For colour negative films there are a few different chemistry kits which come with different stages to process a C-41 colour film, eg

Hope this is of some help.
