Digital Camera - not only is it one of the sharpest lenses on test, its consistency across the frame is just as impressive. Even when used at the widest aperture, it matches the mid-aperture performance of its rivals. The Sigma optic does a remarkable job to offer similar performance, recording high detail throughout its aperture range and keeping aberrations at bay, as well as providing the benefits of optical stabilisation and a near silent autofocus system.
What Digital Camera - The focussing ring is well placed for comfortable access and remains static in AF mode, yet accepts manual adjustments on demand. AF speed and reliability are both good and there is a focus limiter that confines the full range of object distances either within or beyond 0.45m. Clearly Sigma has given some serious thought to this lens and those efforts are to be applauded. As a result, this is a very capable lens that has no serious weaknesses.
