510 Pyro, formulated by Jay DeFehr, is an extremely fine grained, high acutance, long shelf-life staining developer giving full film speed with most films and uniquely triple optimised for darkroom silver gelatine printing, alternative UV based printing and scanning with the same development time.

It proceeded to win the Silvergrain Classics 2021 Awards.

510 Pyro is specifically designed for both modern T-grain and the conventional emulsions.

510 Pyro is for maximising sharpness with minimal grain – solving the traditional paradox of a trade-off with sharpness and grain levels; extended range of tonality -particularly unrivalled highlight separation in silver gelatine printing given by the inbuilt variable contrast filter or extraordinary shadow recovery in digitisation - obtained from the stain; high micro-contrast and exceptional enlargements exceeding x20.

510 Pyro is supplied as a liquid concentrate diluted for 1:100 one-shot use. However, it can be further diluted for economy though there will be a reduction in image quality and longer development times.

Technical Information Download

  • A premium pyro staining developer that won the Silvergrain Classics Awards 2021.
  • Razor sharp and extremely fine grained - most ISO 100 films go grainless! Unrivalled long tonal range particularly in shadows and highlights
  • A 100ml bottle develops 30-100 35mm rolls, 6+ years shelf life
  • Protects film from damage and uniquely gives negatives that are optimised for scanning, silver gelatine and UV printing processes with the same development time
  • 510 Pyro is one of the more modern pyro developers, that was invented by Jay DeFehr, offering exceptional fine grain, sharpness, more than 6 years shelf life, maximum image stain and minimal general stain and is suitable for rotary processors too.
  • The stain offered by this developer gives extraordinary shadow recovery in direct digitisation of negatives; incredible highlight separation for darkroom printing and more density for highlights when using UV based alt process printing methods.
  • By using extremely dilute working solutions - 1:100 to 1:500, this makes this developer also extremely economical!
  • Note: an acidic stop bath and hypo clear must not be used with 510 Pyro developed negatives as they destroy the stain. A water stop bath is instead recommended.
